Band leader Scotty Cantino recently reached out to me about his blazing rock n’ roll project in Los Angeles. Fit me just right: psychedelic guitars, fuzzed out melodies and a deep love for the wall of sound. I asked Scotty to tell me more:
Where does the band name come from? The band name comes from a vagabond / troubadour character in Gabriel Garcia Marquez’ ”100 Years of Solitude”.
How long have you guys been playing together? We’ve been playing together, off and on, since 2007 when we released our debut EP. We played solid for about a year. Things were going well. Our guitarist quit. We didnt play much at all for another year. We focused on school - like a bunch of idiots. Two of us graduated in Late 2009 / early 2010. We started playing again. Put out a 12”. Played lots of shows. Released a two song single last year… our drummer graduated. We’ve been going steady since.
Toured yet? We’ve done several west coast tours. LA / SF / Portland / Seattle type stuff. House parties and what not. We’d love to tour more. Planning on it this year.
Opened w anyone big? We opened for Frank Black (Pixies) once. That is probably the “biggest” band.
Dream gig? Hard to say. Opening for Built to Spill or “Souvlaki”-era Slowdive.
